8. Potential Over-Engineering

Query DSL: Could it be simplified?

Current State: 4 query types (FieldQuery, TagRangeQuery, SubfieldPatternQuery, SubfieldValueQuery)

Could consolidate to: Single query type with optional components

Trade-off: - Pro: Single type to learn - Con: Less type-safe (optional fields everywhere) - Current: Better - each query type has specific purpose, better discoverability

RecordHelpers: Too many convenience methods?

Risk: Could become maintenance burden

Current mitigation: - All implemented via simple field lookups - No complex logic in trait impl - Well-documented

Status: ✓ ACCEPTABLE - Methods are lightweight

Format-Specific Queries: Needed?

Argument for: Record.get_titles() is more discoverable than Record.get_fields("245")

Argument against: Could just use query API

Current design wins: - Self-documenting (method name = intent) - Discoverable (IDE autocomplete) - Consistent with RecordHelpers pattern

Status: ✓ GOOD DESIGN CHOICE


9. Testing and Completeness

Query Module Tests

  • field_query.rs: 26 tests (builder, indicator, range, subfield, pattern, value matching)
  • format_queries.rs: 32+ tests (subject queries, name queries, language, etc.)

Validation Module Tests
